A place to celebrate and remember those we've lost - and help those struggling in the future

Balloons of Hope is a way to remember and celebrate the life of a loved one you lost - those who never got to celebrate their next birthday - by creating your own special balloon in their memory.

You can share messages and photos, or simply add your loved one’s name to the wall of balloons.

Every day in the UK 18 people take their own lives. These aren’t just stats on a page, these are our mums and dads, brothers, sisters, sons, daughters, partners and friends. The truth is, anyone can feel suicidal.

This is a place to celebrate them. Each story told will be a reminder of their story, of the special moments you shared and the joy they brought to your lives.

How it works:

Decide on how much you would like to donate

Create your balloon in memory of someone special

Share with your family and friends

By giving a donation in memory of a loved one, you will help CALM's life-saving services and be there for anyone struggling with life.

Struggling after losing someone?
We’re here for you

Losing someone to suicide can be incredibly difficult and isolating, but you’re not alone. The CALM website has a range of resources, tools and information to help you, and our helpline is available 5pm to midnight 365 days a year.

You can also visit the Support After Suicide Partnership website for listings of where to find support right for you.

About Missed Birthdays and about CALM

Our Missed Birthdays campaign was created to help raise awareness of the devastating reality of youth suicide in the UK, and was kindly funded by Iceland Foods Charitable Foundation.

In the last decade, 6,929 young people in the UK have taken their own lives. It’s a stat that underlines a devastating truth: so many young lives are ending when they should just be beginning.

Right now, suicide is the most common cause of death for those under 24. Each balloon in the installation represented a young person who took their own life, and a birthday they didn’t get to celebrate.

CALM’s vision is that no one feels like suicide is their only option. But right now, too many people are struggling to see a way forward. We’re here every day to help anyone struggling with life - and provide everyone with the skills to help prevent suicide.

We’ve got loads of tools and resources to help people find the support they need, including a life-saving helpline for people who can’t see a way forward, have lost someone to suicide, or are worried about their friends or loved ones.

By creating a balloon in memory of a loved one and donating you’re helping to make sure we’ll be there for anyone struggling in the future.
